I had met some people who had siblings that went to Animas and that was where they had planned to go to high school. They told me a lot of great things about Animas and I thought I might consider going there. I also wanted to go to DHS because it was where all my friends were going and it would be different than what I’m used to. I knew most of them since elementary school and I didn't want to leave them. My parents really wanted me to go to Animas because it was a smaller school and that’s what I’m used to. I decided to try it out for the year and see if I like it and I do like it. Everyone is so nice and inviting. I’ve made so many new friends and feel like I made the right choice coming here versus DHS. I will definitely be coming for the rest of high school. You should never let your friends negatively influence your education and I’m glad I chose to go to Animas because I wouldn't be able to focus or get help on my work if there were 50+ students in all my classes.
Why I Chose to Stay at Animas
I chose to stay at Animas because I enjoyed the project based learning and I felt like if I were to go to another school after already adjusting to the learning style, I would feel like a fish out of water. I already had good relationships with students and teachers so why would I want to have to restart again. I like how I've learned to look at both sides of an argument and how certain projects change my viewpoint on certain issues. I enjoy how I can go into a project and pretty much have full control on what I want to create. Animas isn't perfect but I would rather be in a positive learning environment with a small group of students and friends than in a school where I wouldn't get the help that I would need.
