This project was about globalization and how it comes across in many different forms. We were able to chose our own topics. I chose to talk about globalization through social media because I feel like in this day-in-age social media is a key communication device between the whole world and is a big way in which we get our daily news.
After doing this project I feel like I understand the important role social media plays in our society and how close-mindedness isn't just in the real world but on social media as well. Being able to pick our own topics that involved globalization was really great for me because I felt like I was actually learning about something I was interested in rather than a topic that I had no interest in. This gave me a better Op-Ed and a better overall understanding of what globalization is.
Learning how to write an Op-Ed will help me be able to express my opinions on paper a lot easier for future projects. The writing style of an Op-Ed was very different from a regular essay and made it easier to keep track of what I was trying to express in this paper. Writing small and short paragraphs versus big, long paragraphs made it easier for me to keep track of what I was going to say next and made it easier for the readers to stay focused and see the point you are trying to make.
One thing I learned from my political cartoon was that there are several ways to express your opinion, whether it's in a paper or a drawing. Paying attention to the symbolism in my cartoon made it easier for me to add details why still trying to stick to what I wanted the cartoon to express. I didn't add major details that weren't necessary because it could lead to my viewers taking it the wrong way or not getting the point of the cartoon. In my political cartoon I expressed how we, as a nation, are so consumed in our phones that we have basically become prisoners to them.
